It’s been a bit crazy around here these days and yesterday I received an amazing gift of a full day off. Although I could have used it to do some dissertation work or catch up on my blogs, I didn’t.

Instead, I went to the beach with P. Then, we got half-priced massages, had a relaxing lunch and did a little bit of shopping. Not bad at all! It was a much-needed break from the real world and nice to refresh.

Now, I’m preparing for a lovely weekend away with my honey and can’t wait! ๐Ÿ˜€

More on that later.

It’s hard to believe that 20 years ago today an amazing man left the world behind whilst doing a good deed for the community and environment.

I can remember the day like it was yesterday….

My childhood best friend’s father died while volunteering to cut the top of a tree to make space for osprey’s to nest. The tree top came down the wrong direction, hitting the cherry picker he was in and causing him to fly out and land on the bank across the river. It was a shocking accident that resulted in the death of a loving father, patient husband and wonderful man.

Jon was like a second dad to me. I spent a lot of time at their house, our families did stuff together and we always joked around with one another.

When we got the call of his death, it was like the world stopped. It was my first experience with deep sorrow of losing someone despite all my years of losing people in my life. For years I used to dream that he had come back to us and everything was normal. It was consoling to have Jon appear in my dreams now and then – like a warm blanket wrapped around you on a chillyย evening.

It took a while for our lives to return to normal and my friendship with the Storm ladies has continued although our paths have taken us in various directions. This, I cherish deeply.

Although a sad day to remember, it’s a wonderful feeling to recall an amazing man.

Since arriving in Abu Dhabi, my awareness of jet skis has increased due to their prevalence in the late afternoons just about the time that I used to enjoy laying on the beach after a swim in the sea. In general, it was just an annoying activity that people did here with very little interest to me.

However, in Bali, we tried jet skiing with a guide and I found that I enjoyed the speed on the water; however, it still made me nervous to go too fast as I might fall off or something.

So, the other day M asked about going this weekend. I agreed, though felt a bit hesitant about how fast I might go since I was going to be on a ski on my own. ๐Ÿ˜

However, once on the machine I slowly got comfortable with increasing my speed on the water and learning how to maneuver over the water.

In the end, I maxed out the speed at 55km/hr and flew over the water. Even out in the ocean, it was quite exciting to speed over the waves. We even got to see some dolphins, though I couldn’t quite capture them on camera.

Overall, it was a great time and I think I can get used to it even more! ๐Ÿ˜€

A few months ago, our ZATC (Zayed And The City) group were talking about this group coming to Abu Dhabi. At the time, I didn’t recognize the name, but after seeing a few YouTube videos, I become a bigger and bigger fan. Shortly thereafter, I bought the album and started to get into the lyrics for their social justice and awareness messages.

So, I started to get into the idea of attending their concert and planned to go with my concert buddy, B.

However, time passed and for different reasons I ended up not planning on going in the end.

Then…on the Thursday before the concert (concert was on Friday the 25th), I happened to be on Facebook at work planning a party. Usually, I am not on FB during the work day, but it was a non-teaching day for me and I was avoiding doing other stuff. As I was doing my event planning a message appeared from the Coaching group that I joined about someone having four VIP tickets to the concert as a promotion for her new project, Good Company.

As chance or the law of attraction would have it, she provided me with all four of the VIP tickets for the concert with the request that I follow-up with her after the concert. I was a bit shocked at the ‘fortune’ of the situation and we were super excited to be able to go to the concert.

It was a really amazing concert and perhaps one of the best performances I have seen here aside from Sade.

Enjoy the clips and pics!
