So, it’s Day 5 (why do I count days…?) of 10 to be spent in AD before I head back to the States for the summer. I feared being a little bit bored since almost all of my friends have fled the country and my BF will be gone until this weekend. Though I had planned to get research work done to “entertain” myself that seems to be delayed. Therefore, I’ve had to…

Sri Lanka: Day 4
Our last day in Sri Lanka was spent trying not to get too car sick as we wound our way down the mountain with a few stops for photo shoots, at record-speeds and trying not to have a heart attack watching as Anton swerved in and out of lanes passing trucks and cars on a barely-callable two-lane road. [simage=2047,200,n,center,] [simage=2054,200,n,center,] [simage=2063,200,n,center,] Still, we had a few highlights, such as the stop at Sifani’s…

Sri Lanka: Day 3/Night 4
Our schedule was a bit lighter for this day, so we started a little later for our trip up the mountains to Nuwara Eliya. We started with finishing our visit in Kandy by heading to the Holy Tooth Temple located near/on the palace grounds of the last Singhalese king. It also happened to be a national holiday, so there were numerous visitors to the temple – lucky us! The temple was interesting though…

Sri Lanka: Day 2/Night 3
Having rested up, we were out early to beat the Colombo morning rush-hour traffic to make our way towards Kandy. We drove for about three hours straight passing lots of green views of the land until we got to the Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage. The elephants were so cute and I could have watched them play and bathe in the water for hours, I think. I’ve always had a love of elephants, from the…

Sri Lanka: Day 1/Night 2
Despite our tired state and plans to eat breakfast, then nap before our city tour, C and I ended up chatting in the restaurant for a few hours and never got our naps…. Unfortunately, that meant that when Anton took us on the city tour of Colombo, we missed much of it being so sleepy that we fell asleep. He didn’t really stop anywhere that we could have found interesting anyway, so I…

Sri Lanka: Night 1
A friend from work and I decided to try out traveling together as we’re both semi-single women who like to travel, but aren’t always comfortable traveling on our own. So, we decided to take our first trip together for a few days at the end of term and before she had to begin summer school teaching. C did all the planning and legwork for this trip as I was busy and it just…

Progress!
Here’s my progress report – *At last my Jordan trip updates are done – with pics even! 🙂 I was motivated by the fact that I’m going on another trip today and don’t want to confuse them…. *I’ve completed and submitted at least a comprehensible draft of my dissertation proposal so that I can have a bit of peace for next few days while away. Revisions, etc. to come upon my return, no…

Jordan: Day 4 (Night 5)
Truly, four days/five nights is enough to see the best of Jordan. If you want to camp in Wadi Rum or see more of Petra, then adding a few days would be okay, but in general as a tour-guided tourist, I was happy with the amount of time exploring this country. The last day took us to Aljoun Castle and and Jerash – ruins of a Roman city – and then back to…

Jordan: Day 3 (Night 4)
[simage=1555,200,n,center,] [simage=1557,200,n,center,] [simage=1567,200,n,center,] The previous night held entertainment at the Wadi Rum camping grounds with traditional dancing and music. It wasn’t quite like camping as I know it, but it was fairly comfortable despite a few mozzies ruining my sleep…. In the morning, we were up and off to see the sand dunes and rock formations of Wadi Rum. We went “4x4ing” (nothing too crazy) and got to see the spectacular views the…
